These sessions are highly interactive and informative.

To request a roundtable for your area, contact Toni Xenos at toni.xenos@ama-assn.org. Check this site for scheduled meetings throughout the year.

Alliance members advocate For America's Health

Alliance members gather in Washington, D.C., in March to show unity with the advocacy agenda of the American Medical Association (AMA) on behalf of their spouses and to gain personal growth and leadership skills benefiting Alliance goals for the families of medicine. For three days, the Alliance works side by side, participating in the AMA Alliance Capitol Conference, Winter Session, and the AMA's National Advocacy Conference (NAC).

The first day, the Alliance Capitol Conference-Winter Session, consists of educational programming covering a wide range of topics including fundraising and development, how to talk to legislators and "Screen Out!" training.

The next AMA Alliance Capitol Conference, Winter Session/ AMA National Advocacy Conference is March 9-11, 2009.

2008 Leadership Development Conference

The Leadership Development Conference, October 5-7, 2008, is a two-and-a-half day networking and team-building opportunity designed to boost membership growth and service throughout the country in support of health advocacy initiatives, health promotion and fundraising for medicine's future. The AMA Alliance organizes the meeting to prepare members for leadership in the largest organization for the family of medicine.

The conference generally attracts county and state Alliance leaders such as presidents, presidents-elect, membership chairs and newly nominated officers. National Alliance leaders are also on hand throughout the meeting to answer questions, lead discussions and brainstorm ideas. To encourage resident physician and medical student spouse leaders to attend, the AMA Alliance waives their registration fees. Once county and state leaders spots are filled, any Alliance member can register for the conference at his or her own expense.

We look forward to an exciting program with well known speakers in a new location, at the newly renovated Chicago Marriott Downtown (Magnificent Mile) hotel, located at 540 North Michigan Avenue. Here are some materials that will help you get acquainted with the new location:

Programs

The AMA Alliance is dedicated to promoting and supporting the medical community in which we live and offers invaluable grassroots program opportunities for states, counties, leaders and members. The following program areas are designed to address several critical issues affecting the family of medicine and child health and safety, such as legislative advocacy, health promotion and fundraising.

Screen Out!

The "Screen Out" campaign, launched by the AMA Alliance in October 2006, is a nationwide effort to take smoking out of youth-rated movies.

Physicians-in-Training Host Program

Through this program, fourth-year medical students are provided housing as they interview for residency, in an effort to help students cut down on interviewing costs, get to know the community surrounding their potential residency program and introduce them to the local medical society and Alliance.

Advocate for Good Health

The AMA Alliance offers valuable resources and tools to help meet local legislative concerns and prepare programs that build healthy communities.

Fundraising

The AMA Alliance is deeply committed to fund-raising for the foundation and has been successful with its effective grassroots fundraising efforts. Alliances on the state and county level organize various fundraisers that contribute nearly $1 million annually to the foundation.

Health Promotion

Through health promotion, the AMA Alliance serves as a vital link between families and the medical community by providing education and support.
