Established in 1867, the West Virginia State Medical Association is a physician-based organization which focuses on public health issues, strives to provide the highest level of continuing medical education, and seeks to promote the time honored commitment of the medical profession while improving the quality of life for West Virginians.

The West Virginia State Medical Association oversees 30 component societies throughout the state. In an effort to better serve the citizens of each county in West Virginia, we strive to provide the physicians and volunteer leaders of every component society with the most current medical information available.

With more than 2,700 members, the West Virginia State Medical Association serves the largest number of physicians in the state. Our members consist of medical and osteopathic physicians in every range of specialty.

The WVSMA encourages its members to be involved, not only through their state and county medical societies, but within their communities. Physicians throughout West Virginia dedicate their time and commitment to their communities by offering free medical services to sick and needy families, and participating in many civic and educational activities.
